Are they a rock band? A jazz ensemble? Well, neither... and both. The
Baron Samedi Ecstatic Soul Quintet have been endeavouring to forge their
own sound- this "Ecstatic Soul", an amalgam of everything
pure and kinetic that passes across their collective radar- since 2001,
and right there with them have been Colin Stewart and The Hive. The
BSESQ and Colin have forged a symbiotic relationship, first through
a series of live recordings (one resulting in their debut album "Ecstatic
Soul Quintet: Live, No Overdubs") and more recently through the
recording of their second LP, "Feed A Fever".
More considered and arranged than the first, "Feed A Fever"
shows The BSESQ finding their legs (in no small part due to the luxury
of the new Hive facility and the expertise of Colin himself). It's hot
and sweaty one minute, gentle and sweet the next (with a dash of madness
here and there, naturally). Throughout, the band sounds like a BAND
and not the cut 'n paste experiment that passes for music so often these
days. Due sometime in 2004, "Feed A Fever" was the first LP
to be completed at the new Hive and should serve to further bolster
the reputations of all involved. Let there be no doubt, The Hive is
where it's at.Steven Balogh, Benji Bohannon, Shane Krause, Rod Navarro,
