Hailing from Vancouver, The Doers are an acoustic, three-piece-folk-punk-soft-math-rock band with a pleasant smell and a firm handshake. Formed from 3/4 of the surviving members of Vancouver legends STATIONa, a band that recorded three LPs and was notorious for providing a wall of sound; often leaving its audience stramming for more or in an ambulence. In contrast to their roots, the Doers have managed to capture the intensity of STATIONa but with a portion of the volume, minus one member and far less gear. With influences that range from the Minutemen to the Modern Lovers and everywhere else in between that is lovely, they take listeners and viewers alike on a journey that partially resembles a Carlos Castenada novel, only with larger font and better prose. After exploding onto the vancouver music scene in the summer of 2003 with 22 local shows and a cover story in Terminal City Weekly, they made a hell ride to Calgary to open a show for Mike Watt and the Secondmen at the Night Gallery, then travelled east three more times (covering ground between vancouver island and winnipeg). This was all in preparation for the Canadian Fall Tour 2004 which took The Doers to Newfoundland and back to Vancouver with 55 shows. This hard work earned their debut album a spot at number 11 on the Canadian college radio charts for the month of November and a spot in the top 50 for the year. The Doers show no signs of slowing down having now played live more than 100 times and continue to attract praise from fans, critics and various facets of the media. Having recently released the debut CD entitled "Ready, Set...Do/I
Can Enjoy Almost Anything" recorded at Rec-age Recorders and
mixed at The Hive that featured Shammy Doer on guitar/vocals, Barold
Do on bass, Jeff on drums and Kathy Dubé (The Cinch) on vocals,
the Doers formulated a beautiful, aggressive, soothing, tantric record.
The record also includes cameos from the likes of the legendary Mike
Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE)
who played bass on a number of tracks while Barold Do was recovering
from a near fatal injury late 2002. (The ordeal was documented on www.cbcradio3.ca and entitled "The Art of Recovery; Bedside Drawings of a Fallen
Friend" illustrated by Shammy Doer.) Other cameos include Joel
Tong (Black Rice), Juli Steemson Luckily for everybody, The Doers are coming to a town near you again and they're not just going to hang out and drink this time. Yessiree, they're coming and they're going to play the hell out of the place. And just like the big sweaty teddybears that they are, they're open and available to speak with anyone curious about their recent happenings. If you are interested in finding out more about The Doers, listening to some of their recordings, conducting an interview, or spamming them, go to www.thedoers.com, have fun and feel free to say hi. See you soon.
