Hot Hot Heat formed in the first half of 1999 after a long list of bands that the members had played in for years, including such incarnations as Instill, Black Vein Prophecy, Fuck You I'm Stealing Home, The Detriot Deathwatch, and Missiles To Heaven. The band was an instant local sensation, delivering a show of sassy, new wave post-hardcore in the vein of The VSS, Le Shok, Devo, Nomeansno, and Camera Obscura. The band toured the west coast with friends Radio Berlin in 1999 gathering many fans along the way. Hot Hot Heat recorded their split 12" with Vancouver's The Red Light Sting in the summer of 2000 (They also released a self-recorded 7"/demo earlier within that year) and that record became a huge, instant success locally and abroad. In early 2001 the band had a line-up change when the original vocalist Matty Marnik left, keyboardist Steve Bays took on vocal duties, and added guitarist Dante DeCaro. With this line-up change so changed the sound: taking the band in a more poppier, funkier, upbeat direction. In 2001 Hot Hot Heat put in a lot of hard work, resulting in scores of live shows and being signed to Seattle's Sub Pop Records. They have released both an album and an EP in 2002, recorded by Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla and that world famous guy, Jack Endino. The band has now gone on to be a successful band in the current music scene and have been touring constantly over the last few years and have in that time signed to Warner.
