Although The Measure never recorded with The Hive (1. they recorded before The Hive existed and 2. Colin did master their recording posthumously), The Measure were an important fixture and turning point in Vancouver's post-punk/hardcore scene (along with Ex Dead Teenager) in their short but vibrant run from the summer of 1997 to the summer of 1998. The Measure started at a collaboration between Matt Camirand (bass) of Okara and 30 Second Motion Picture, Dave Paterson (guitar), Chris Frey (vocals), Ian Hodges (drums), and Jack Duckworth (guitar). The band brought a much needed rock and roll raunch element at the time to Vancouver's scene, bringing in influences of Joy Division, Jesus Lizard, The Monorchid, AC/CD and Talking Heads. They played numerous live shows which are still somewhat memorable even today for those who were there to see them. The Measure recorded one demo recorded by Josh Wells and Steve McBean from Jerk With A Bomb which sold out shortly after released. Those songs are available here in a remastered form for your listening pleasure. The band broke up in the summer with members going onto play in The Black Halos then Blood Meridian (Matt), The Spitfires then Alarm Bell (Dave), Mercury The Winged Messenger (Ian), Radio Berlin (Jack and Chris), Destroyer (Chris) and A Luna Red (Jack). As of late 2004, The Black Halos, The Spitfires, Mercury The Winged Messenger, and A Luna Red are no more. Matt is now also playing in Black Mountain. And as well as playing in Radio Berlin, Jack is playing in Primes and Chris Frey in The Book of Lists.
