Radio Berlin
RADIO BERLIN (1998-2005)
line divider

Radio Berlin were regular recording clients here at The Hive, from their first sessions with us for their first album, Sibling, back in 1999. Since then the band has recorded several 7"s, two LPs, Glass and The Selection Drone and worked with the Hive on a remix album, Sister Sounds.

Radio Berlin began in the spring of 1998, out of the ashes of local bands Ex-Dead Teenager and The Measure. The band played their first show with The Audience (now Sub Pop's Vue) and releasing a now long out of print 7-song demo. They have toured North America four times and the west coast of the continent an additional amount of times and seek to tour the US and Europe again in 2004.

All of the bands recorded output with The Hive so far has been with it's older, longest running line-up which was Duckworth, Frey, ex-drummer Joshua Wells (who was with Radio Berlin since their inception and left in early 2003. Josh plays in Jerk With A Bomb, Black Mountain, and Pink Mountaintops), and ex-keyboardist Warren Hill (who was replaced by Sung in early 2002), with exception of Glass which was recorded as this line-up: Duckworth, Frey, Sung, and Wells.

The band have received rave reviews (several best album of the year claims!) for The Selection Drone, drawing comparisons to Joy Division, Wire, early Cure, Gang Of Four, Josef K, and Echo And The Bunnymen and even more stellar reviews for Glass, which reached many top ten listed and have put the band into more of an international arena amongst some of their bigger, more popular contemporaries.

In 2003 Wells left to focus on the now successful Black Mountain and Radio Berlin saw some temporary drumming duties supplied by Rob Zgaljic (Black Halos) and then followed by Brad McKinnon. The band toured extensively on Glass and then returned to the Hive in the spring of 2004 to record a batch of new songs.

Unfortunately due a string of bad luck, exhausting, and interest in different musical directions, the band called in quits sometime between fall 2004 - summer 2005.

Members of Radio Berlin have additional musical activities in the following bands: Chris Frey in The Book Of Lists and previously Destroyer, Jack Duckworth in A Luna Red (1999-2003) and Primes, Brad MacKinnonand Lyndsay Sung in Pink Mountaintops. Lyndsay Sung also played Le Petite Morte (2000-2003). Brad also played in Fuck Me USA.
